Cultural Impacts

Our sense of self is shaped by the culture we live in. Sometimes certain cultural norms or expectations cease to serve us and there can be a tension between the culture we grew up, our family’s culture, and/or our changing identities. People living in the US are impacted by the current social and political climate as well as a history of colonialism and systems of white supremacy. These factors can have a significant effect on our mental health and overall well-being. Common topics of exploration are: racial inequality and systemic racism, systemic sexism and misogyny, political and social inequality for LGBTQIA+ and gender fluid/non-binary folks, immigrant experiences, inequitable health care, poverty and homelessness, mass shootings and acts of domestic terrorism, and environmental stress. Together, we will explore the emotional impact of these factors on your psyche and combat feelings of helplessness.
